Uh Huh Her

Uh Huh Her, not just an album by the legend PJ Harvey. Oh no, it’s the name of a not so new female American two piece band.

Electo/rock ish band, I suppose is how you could describe them. Personally, I’d say they were wonderful but as usual I am being biased and I never really tell you about bands I don’t like ๐Ÿ™‚ Not A Love Song is one of the few tracks I cannot stop playing which is probably annoying anyone that knows me. I’m not going to apologise though. I love Uh Huh Her and I’m not the only one.

One thing that is ever so slightly pissing is that I can’t get hold of the album due to England being ever so slightly crap with getting imported CDs. However, I’ll make do with watching the videos on YouTube ๐Ÿ™‚

Ron Asheton.

A shit start to the year, Ron Asheton (guitarist/bassist) from Iggy Pop & The Stooges has been found dead. He was only 60 years old.

The Stooges were one of the greatest bands ever, and I’m sure a lot would agree.

Play The Stooges loud, and hear the greatness of them. A remarkable band. I’m not one for regrets, but I really wish I went to Get Loaded In The Park last year, I really do.

RIP Ron. I bet Lester Bangs greeted you with a beer ๐Ÿ˜‰

And of course…………..

Florence And The Machine ๐Ÿ™‚

Florence And The Machine….yes, AGAIN!

I adore Candi Staton’s track, You Got The Love. I love the version by The Source too.

However, as a massive Florence And The Machine I was reduced to tears when I heard her version of this beautiful song. The emotion in it and the words always get to me. But her version just…I have no idea, but I know it’s one of the best covers I’ve heard in a very long time.

What I love about this YouTube clip is how everyone in the audience has their hands in the air and belting it out with her. I wish I was there.ย  I think I may have to spend ยฃ15 to see her on that NME tour..even though she’s the only act I like on the line up! If she played this I’d be a wreck. It’s a very special song to me, and to hear it covered so perfectly makes me stupidly happy.

You can get the full version off iTunes or if you buy her single Dog Days Are Over. It needs to make the album and be made into a single. People need to hear just how amazing and beautiful this cover is.

Her album is hopefully coming out in May. I cannot wait!

Florence And The Machine- You Got The Love (cover)

Florence And The Machine…AGAIN!

As you know, I planned to write about Florence as much as I could, where I could until she got signed. Well, as you all know- SHE HAS BEEN SIGNED!!!! Of course it’s nothing to do with me, and just because she has been signed does not mean I’ll stop writing about this talented young woman. Oh no.

The other morning I woke to read that she had won Brit Awards Critics Choice Award 2009. I was so happy, it made my week.ย  I can’t think of any other person worthy of that award right now. If she performs at the Brits (I think she is) I am 100000000000000000 % sure she will blow everyone away with her energy and voice.

The album’s out next year and I’m positive it’ll be one of, if not THE best album of 2009!

Timbaland Top 10.

I was listening to some of my old music earlier and heard a bunch of Timbaland’s old stuff. So I thought, a Top 10 is much needed. Why? I have no idea. Maybe because it’s Sunday and I’ve not got anything to do 9I have got stuff to do, I’m just not doing it!)

So, here’s my Top 10 Timbaland Produced Tracks :

10.ย  Timbaland & Magoo feat. Static- We At It Again

9.ย  Ginuwine- What\’s So Different

8. Nas feat. Aaliyah- You Won\’t See Me Tonight

7. Missy Elliott feat. Nicole Wray and MC Solaar- All N My Grill

6. Bubba Sparxxx- Ugly

5. Ms.Jade feat. Timbaland and Nelly Furtado- Ching Ching

4. Ginuwine- Pony

3. Timbaland, Aaliyah and Static- I Am Music

2. Aaliyah- One In A Million

1. Aaliyah feat. Timbaland- Are You That Somebody

ย

There you go. My Top 10 Timbaland tracks. I was unsure whether or not to swap 1 with 1, however if it was my Top 10 Aaliyah tracks then One In A Million would be Number 1. No questions asked. My favourite song ever by my favourite singer ever- but that’s a different blog entry, which will be soon!

Girls Aloud

Girls Aloud. Some will dismiss them as manufactured bollocks. I, on the other hand LOVE them. Nothing beats Love Machine. However, Call The Shots is up there.

Now, I can sort of see why you’d be quick to write them off. But, they’ve had 19 or 20 hits, very successful albums and they’ve lasted longer than most of these people that win these music reality bollocks.

Some of their songs are a bit annoying. The Promise is a killer track- even my mum likes it! Says it reminds her of the 60s! Go Mum! I was never a fan of Sound Of The Underground, I like the music but the way they sing the verses creeps me out a tiny bit. The Show is amusing, so is the video. I won’t try and convert you to like them, but come on..LET’S GO ESKIMO OUT INTO THE BLUEEEEEE!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Rolling Stone Top 100 Singers Of All Time.

What the hell!!?? Have you seen this list? It is awful. Truly awful. Awful like…I can’t describe it, I can only say that I am full of disappointment and disgust.

How on Earth can Christina Aguilera be placed higher than Patti Smith, Mary J Blige, Iggy Pop, Morrissey, Annie Lennox.

Aretha Franklin is number 1. Which I’m okay with, at least it wasn’t someone like CHRISTINA CHUFFIN’ AGUILERA!!!! Beyonce isn’t in the list, neither is Aaliyah. What the crap???!!! Bob Dylan is only number 7.

I’m going to stop before I cry.

There is no title…or is there… ?

I’m babysitting our hamster. He’s called Len. He’s asleep with his face hanging out of his house we got him. I suppose his arse is hanging out the other side. He’s a cute sod.

Anyway, as much as I’d like to go into detail about our lovely Len- I’m going to write about something not so lovely. Reality TV.

Making people famous overnight with no sense of hardwork or whatever you want to call it. Experience? I won’t lie, I do watch X-Factor, purely for comedy value. It should be a comedy, really should. Shall we put bets on how long the winner’s “career” will last? I thought 18 months (if that) was the maximum? At least Will Young has a degree. What happens to those who don’t succeed? They seem to put their life on hold or in the hands ofย 2 bints (Simon Cowell is a bit funny, he’s not a bint. Cheryl Cole is alright, but she makes no sense when she speaks. Attractive though, and I do like a bit of Girls Aloud)

Is American Idol worse? Idol? Idle.

Who’s career lasts longer, an American Idol winner or X-Factor winner? And what the hell is the “x-factor?” I am a bit of a cynic with things like this, and most things. I’ve been playing Len (our hamster) New York Dolls and Morrissey this afternoon. He’s still asleep. If he was awake and climbing furiously, I’d assume he hated what I was playing and was trying to escape his cage in order to pounce on the laptop and play something to his taste. But he hasn’t.

Yes there are some good ones on these shitty programmes but to be honest, people are still buying Razorlight and Keane records. I guess we’ll never have in depth records topping the chart or have intelligent people are role models. To be honest, intelligent people wouldn’t do a daft thing as to strive to be a role model to today’s society.

John Peel.

It’s 4 years since, in my eyes (and ears), that the most important and influential person in music/radio/journalism died.

Radio is bollocks right now and the same can be said for most of the music out there. With a select few of new bands, I sometimes listen to them and think “John Peel would play these guys.” His book The Olivetti Chronicles came out on Monday, I’m already halfway through. It is an essential book regardless if you love music or not. It’s not just about music, it’s about life too.

I could write how wonderful he was and how missed he is, but everyone knows that. So all that’s left really is to play his favourite song as loud as you want, and embrace the greatness of the song that is, Teenage Kicks by The Undertones.

The Undertones-Teenage Kicks.

“I just want to hear something I haven’t heard before.”~ John Peel.
