Uh Huh Her-New Song.

I’ve played this a lot since I heard this yesterday. I love it. It’s a nice happy song. Such a wank description. I know, I can do better. I’ll do it properly.

Right, Uh Huh Her are underated. Totally underated. Maybe in the gay scene they’re pretty big. But a band shouldn’t be limited to one scene at all. Everyone needs to know about how amazing Uh Huh Her are. Why? Because they will make you dance. I don’t dance. After injuring myself at Pride on Saturday-I’m resting. It’s either rest or not drink Long Island Iced Tea. I’ve got a trapped nerve. The right side of my body is useless right now. Don’t pole dance dear reader…not unless you know what you’re doing. Doing a Kelly Holmes run up followed by throwing yourself at a pole never ends well. But it sure does provide amusement. This is why I’m single, I’m a bit silly.

WHAT WAS MY POINT….Oh yes…Uh Huh Her.

Same High is brilliant. It shook me like Not A Love Song did. It’s just a brilliant electro kind of song. If the new album sounds anything like this- it’ll be stunning. The last album was a beaut too. Although, I still can’t really listen to Dreamer. It’s on a par with Cover My Eyes by La Roux. Far too sad. Heartbreaking. Maybe I’ll stop being a wuss and allow my ears to listen. Until then, I’ll stick to songs like their new one which makes my limbs want to spazz out- again. If you can make my limbs want to do that, then you’ve made a wonderful song. And what a wonderful song it is.

Anyway, enough of my going on. Have a listen!

Same High.

Glastonbury 2010.

Bless the BBC for showing some amazing sets over the weekend. A few songs in particular made me cry. Not even sorry or ashamed about it. So, I’ve found some of the best ones that have been put up so far :

Ellie Goulding-Starry Eyed. If Salt Skin had been put up, I’d put that on. But seeing about 7,000 people sing every word back to Ellie looked pretty damn beautiful. What’s even better is that Fin aka Starsmith is on the side watching it. Just amazing.

The xx & Florence Welch- You’ve Got The Love. Stunning. Totally stunning.

La Roux- Quicksand and Temptation. A very special guest joins the band on stage!

Florence + The Machine- Heavy In Your Arms and The Chain. Covering Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain was mindblowing. So gorgeous. I know they said they were only doing it once…but they need to do it again. Mark KILLED the bass solo. It’s the best bass solo in the history of music and he nailed it. The whole band nailed that song. It’s perfect.

Marina & The Diamonds-Guilty. My favourite Marina song off the album. I just adore it.

Marvin Gaye.

I’m going to be real quick with this because I’m watching Reservoir Dogs. Earlier Sky Arts showed an old Marvin Gaye concert from 1976. That man was a legend. If I could sing like him, I’d get some ladies…right? Oh maybe not. ANYWAY…Marvin was the definition of soul. He was art. He was everything music needed. Here’s why :

Garbage

I grew up listening to The Cure, The Smiths, Bob Dylan and Billie Holiday- my mum had/has amazing music taste. But, the first band I remember finding on my own was back in 1995. Garbage. I remember seeing Shirley Manson’s fiery red hair and pale skin and just being in awe. In awe of her beauty, her voice. In awe of Steve, Butch and Duke. This band became my life as I got older.

I was an awkward teenager. I was painfully shy and quiet. I’m an awkward adult. Garbage were my comfort blanket. Shirley Manson sang out my frustrations and all that was getting to me. She was and still is, my role model. I do go on about how I adore Morrissey. Shirley is my female Morrissey. I love them the same amount, and they have both saved me from what I wish to never feel again. Garbage will always be the band I can depend on to get me through shit. Just like Moz/The Smiths.

I couldn’t really pick one song in particular that’s my favourite. I love all of them equally. I wish I could see them live, that’s what I want from life. Guys, make this shit happen yeah? GOOD.

Here’s a few songs by Garbage that I adore, in no order :

Run Baby Run.

It’s All Over But The Crying.

Special.

The Trick Is To Keep Breathing.

You Look So Fine.

Right Between The Eyes.

Milk.

Nobody Loves You.

Also, beautifulgarbage is underrated.

Lucy Pearl.

One thing that made me insanely hapy back in 2000 was the band Lucy Pearl. Lucy Pearl were made up of my favourite members of 3 bands I adored. Dawn from En Vogue. Raphael Saadiq from Tony!Toni!Tone! and of course, Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest. Honestly, it was the best musical group to come out in a long time. Then they split up, or well..Dawn left and they replaced her with Joi. NOT THE SAME AT ALL. Just sayin’. Anyway, they only had one album out and with all my heart, I wish they’d come back together and put out another great album. The album (self titled) was just pure soul. There was no denying how wonderful this album truly was. I miss music like this. I miss it being so raw and soulful. Music lacks a bit of soul right now. So basically, what I’m saying is- Lucy Pearl, please reform…even if its for just one more album.

Although, Dawn has joined En Vogue again and apparently an album is due out late this year with a single out around September? Oh please be true! I just love Dawn to be honest.

Adelaide’s Cape-Last Sleep In Albion EP.

When you’ve toured with Alessi’s Ark and played on the same stage as First Aid Kit, you know you cannot go wrong at all.

Adelaide’s Cape is a young fellow named Sam Taylor. There’s no story or meaning behind his stage name. It sounds good, you don’t need to know anymore. His EP sounds good too, you need to know more. So allow me to tell you.

A 4 track delight of EP which is very relaxing. Just what you need on a Friday. End of the week, perfect way to just relax. As it is only a 4 track EP you do wish there was more, but as they say “good things come to those who wait.”

Opening with This Fiction, a country-esque feel yet still folky. If you don’t enjoy this song then you’ve probably have far too much wax in your ears and you’re not listening properly. Sam’s voice reminds me a wee bit like Scott Matthews which is never a bad thing. The romantic, painful line “I miss you but you haven’t left.” We’ve all felt this way about someone whether they care or not. I’m just going to throw it out there now, I want Ellie Goulding and Sam to duet. It would be amazing. It needs to happen. Their voices would sound so beautiful together.

My favourite track is Girl Of The Land. I just love his voice on this track and the guitar. It’s beautiful, it’s painful and it’s pure. The best kind of music is just like that. Stay is a beaut too,”Leaving you was the best thing I did”harsh, honest-brilliant.

The EP is just wonderful and I urge you to click on this link HERE.
