Albums.

I couldn’t think of a decent title for this post, so “Albums” will just have to do!

So, I’m going to assume that most of you have had your heart metaphorially broken and also again, metaphorically, had your worl come to an end. You know the feeling. You do dumb shit to adjust to the changes. You have a messed up sleep patterns nd food, amongst other things repulses you.

To adjust to all this, this year I went to a stupid amount of gigs and bought a load of albums that quite possible, saved my ass.

So these albums came out this year and were a bit of a crutch to me:

La Roux- La Roux. This album is about one person, said Elly Jackson. Pretty obvious too. Every song pretty much sums everything up. I don’t need to say anymore.

Florence + The Machine- Lungs. I don’t need to tell you just how much this album means to me. You already know. When I went to see her live in May, she said Hurricane Drunk is about an ex and other stuff. Pretty much hit me. Hard. As did Cosmic Love, that breaks me every time. Beautiful song.

Spinnerette-Spinnerette. Not the whole album, but just two songs- Driving Song and Baptized By Fire. ’nuff said.

Golden Silvers-True Romance. Amazing album. Makes all the crap seem insignificant..even if it isn’t. Beautiful album. Brilliant live.

The Dead Weather-Horehound. Agressive and sexy. No more to say!

Metric-Fantasies. I think Blindness changed everything. I spoke to Emily about this one track. I cannot put it into words. Excellent album.

Camera Obscura-My Maudlin Career. This album is seriously underrated. Album of the year? Top 5 place!

The Horrors-Primary Colours. Better than Strange House. Fascinating band.

Morrissey-Years Of Refusal. I do not need to tell you just how extrodinary Morrissey is.

Doll & The Kicks-Doll & The Kicks. Again, another brilliant live band. If You Care made me cry when I saw them live. Can easily see why Moz loves them.

The Enemy-Music For The People. Astoundingly good.

Finally…this one album came out a long long time ago. This album is one album I listen to every day. I’ve never got bored of it. It is…..

Is This It by The Strokes. And tomorrow, I shall be getting “Is This It” tattooed on my wrist. I love this album so much! Timeless. Utterly timeless.

I suppose there was no real point to this post and I’ve probably missed out a few albums. My memory is not my strongest point 😉

The Enemy.

Best thing to come out of Coventry since The Specials.

Check out the video to the new single, Sing When You’re In Love (I’ve witnessed this live at the Ricoh Arena-amazing!)

The Enemy-Sing When You’re In Love (Video).

And this is their cover of Noisettes’ Don’t Upset The Rhythm. Of course I believe it’s better than the original. Love Tom singing Blue Monday near the end!

The Enemy-Don’t Upset The Rhythm(Cover).

The Enemy- No Time For Tears.

The Enemy are easily one of the best British bands around, and are flawless live. If you think they’re not going to be able to top their debut album, then you are wrong! New single, No Time For Tears picks up where We’ll Live And Die In These Towns left off but does sound a bit different and stronger.

The video is simple yet it focuses on the power the song holds.

Oh, and a few weeks ago I walked past Andy(bassist) in Leamington Spa. When I say walk past, I mean I was on a bus in town that went past him. I did spazz a bit. Me and my girlfriend were going to follow him but as we’re over the age of 12..we thought better of it! She reckons his name is Kieron. She knows it’s Andy but says he looks like he should be called Kieron!

Enjoy the video and song.

The Enemy- No Time For Tears (video).

The Enemy. Sunday 6th April. Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

I’ve seen these guys twice, but you know what they say- three’s the magic number. Not only is it a De La Soul track, but it’s also true.

I’m not commenting on the support acts. I’m focusing on the main event. The Enemy. Playing their home turf. Magical and beyond beautiful.

Every track from the debut album, We’ll Live And Die In These Towns is played. Every word is recited back to Liam, Andy and Tom. Every word is sang by the band and crowd as if their lives depend on it. It probably does actually, the amount of bottles being thrown and people being carried out was astounding. Who knew a plastic bottle in the eye could hurt so much! As well as the odd knee and elbow. Good time had all round.

The Enemy made a song by the Sex Pistols actually sound good! Biased opinion because I don’t like the Sex Pistols but love The Enemy! Their version of God Save The Queen was amazing and unexpected. They also played a new song, Sing When You’re In Love/Sing When You’re Out Of Love which, if hopefully on the new album, will be just as perfect as the first album.

I’ve seen them at the Carling Academy in Birmingham, The NEC and now the Ricoh Arena. All have had special occasions attached to them. The NEC was my 21st birthday and the other two were their homecoming gigs.

As quite a new band, The Enemy play with all they have and an insane amount of professionalism. Something to be admired by new and old bands alike. The crowd consisted of families, neighbours, friends and fans. A highlight was seeing a couple aged around 60 dance and sing like mad to The Enemy. Never seen anything like it! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again- one of the best gigs I have ever been to.

Every time I’ve seen them, they’ve ended the set with You’re Not Alone..I just hope they never stop doing that. Tom praises the people of Coventry and they do it back. Before they came on stage, Ricoh Arena Coventry came up on the screen-so loud, so beautiful! At the end the band led a Coventry football chant. It had it be done, it’d be a shame if it hadn’t.

Best live British band? Yes. Best Live band in the world right now? HELL YES.

Go see them.
