Fighter Plane.

Fighter Plane.

I cannot put into words how much this song means to me. I heard this over a year ago, when Under The Sheets came out- it’s the B-Side. I heard it at a time that I hope to god or whoever, that I never have to go through it again. The line “Face your mistakes, you will never have to feel that way again.” hit me in the gut and heart. It just clicked somewhere. It’s such a beautiful song. Probably my favourite Ellie song. If she did it live I’d be a mess and attempt to get on stage and hug her and say “Thank you.” Everything about the song is perfect. The words…her voice. I just adore it.

Ellie Goulding….she makes me weep!

I won’t ever deny that acoustic songs can sometimes turn me into a mess. A big crying mess. About 15 minutes ago, I was one- I have yet to get a grip. I haven’t learnt my lesson so I’m listening to the same song over and over- because it is that gorgeous.

I’m clearly going on about the acoustic version of The Writer by Ellie Goulding. She just amazes me every time. Her album, Lights is stunning. One of the best albums this year. And easily one of the most wonderful debut albums.

If I could get away with slapping anyone who slags her off- I gladly would. I mean, listen to Salt Skin- how the hell can you deny how great she is? But anyway, I shall leave you with the song that has reduced me to tears. You can get it from 9th August off iTunes and all that good stuff. Buy it. Because I said so- and I’d very much like you too =]

The Writer (Acoustic)

Also, I wish she’d sing The End and Fighter Plane during her gigs. Although, I’d be asked to leave due to being a crying mess…..

Ellie Goulding-I’ll Hold My Breath.

I did love this when it was called Swimming Pool, but the version on Lights is just as gorgeous. The words are beautiful. The song means a lot…right now.

Breathe air you’re not used to, tread floors you don’t fall through
Make waves…
You crash a symbol hard
Follow no one, always play the wrong card
Waste days, in foreign places
Shed lights, on your better side
Reassure me that you’ll wait for me, wait for me as long as it takes!

And I’ll hold my breath, I’ll hold my breath

Until you see me in your dreams
WE’ll stay awake beneath the trees
We’ll watch the buildings turn to dust
A sky of diamonds just for us
You are the risk I’ll always take
The only branch I’ll never break
Thsoe fears we’ll blow them all way

Fight fires in your best clothes, touch skin with your eyes closed
Chase thunder…
With the volume down
Pack a suitcase, wonder to the next town
Force quit, on your losing streak
Solve a riddle in a magazine, be tongue in cheek
Tell me that we’re still too young, that we’re still too young and I’ll my tongue

Until you see me in your dreams
WE’ll stay awake beneath the trees
We’ll watch the buildings turn to dust
A sky of diamonds just for us
You are the risk I’ll always take
The only branch I’ll never break
Thsoe fears we’ll blow them all way

I’m here, I’m here to save you
No fall, I will swim to save you

Until you see me in your dreams
We’ll stay awake beneath the trees
We’ll watch the buildings turn to dust A sky of diamonds just for us
You are the risk I’ll always take
The only branch I’ll never break
Those fears we’ll blow them all way, we’ll blow them all away.

Glastonbury 2010.

Bless the BBC for showing some amazing sets over the weekend. A few songs in particular made me cry. Not even sorry or ashamed about it. So, I’ve found some of the best ones that have been put up so far :

Ellie Goulding-Starry Eyed. If Salt Skin had been put up, I’d put that on. But seeing about 7,000 people sing every word back to Ellie looked pretty damn beautiful. What’s even better is that Fin aka Starsmith is on the side watching it. Just amazing.

The xx & Florence Welch- You’ve Got The Love. Stunning. Totally stunning.

La Roux- Quicksand and Temptation. A very special guest joins the band on stage!

Florence + The Machine- Heavy In Your Arms and The Chain. Covering Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain was mindblowing. So gorgeous. I know they said they were only doing it once…but they need to do it again. Mark KILLED the bass solo. It’s the best bass solo in the history of music and he nailed it. The whole band nailed that song. It’s perfect.

Marina & The Diamonds-Guilty. My favourite Marina song off the album. I just adore it.

Lissie (Part 2).

I’m going to write this properly and try not to be too biased, although we know I will be. Because if I disliked Lissie, would I really write about her? Exactly.

Every so often, a singer comes along and just leaves you mind blown. Their voice shatters your heart into pieces and you just cannot believe what you are hearing. I had this feeling when I first heard Cat Power, Florence + The Machine and Ellie Goulding. I also had it the first time my mum played me Morrissey and Bob Dylan. The feeling has come back, this time it’s all down to Lissie. I won’t lie, I do have a weakness for female singers with guitars. I just think it’s beautiful, so long as they are good, obviously.

Lissie’s had the Stevie Nicks comparison, although I see it- I don’t go for it. I honestly think she’s as amazing as Cat Power. There’s just something about those two that in 50 years time- people will still know who they are. They’ll remember Lissie and be like “Remember when she covered Metalica and Lady GaGa?!” She kills the guitar, her voice is husky- yet you know it isn’t forced at all. She’s played a few times with Ellie Goulding. I reckon if I actually saw this I’d have some kind of breakdown. It’d be like Bob Dylan and Cat Power singing together. I must stop thinking about this because it’ll only set me off again!

You can put Lissie in any kind of genre you want, dismiss her because she’s another woman with a guitar- but you’ll be a total fool to do so. Besides, if anyone can turn a legendary metal song into something painfully beautiful like Lissie has- then you know they’ll be around for a long time. And you know what? It’s better than the original. I’ve got no problems saying that.

Her album is out SOON, and it better do well or I will just have some kind of hissy fit. I really will. So do me a favour and buy her album because I don’t want to throw a strop at all.

Actually Lissie, you ever see this (or Ellie) could you both please do an album together? It’d probably be the best thing ever and it’d make a hell of a lot of people happy. Aoh, and do a tour together? I’m not really asking for much 😉
