Florence And The Machine-Lungs. Album Review.

I came home earlier and amongst the post was my SIGNED copy of Florence’s album that isn’t out until Monday. I’m pretty sure you can imagine how happy this has made me. Today has pretty much been the best day ever. Anyway, here is my review. I feel I haven’t done the labum justice…but we all know that Lungs is a masterpiece and is the best album of this year. Oh, and it’s pretty much one of the best debut albums ever.

Here it is…after a long time waiting…here it is 🙂  :

They say good things come to those that wait….and wait I have. For nearly two years I have waited for this album. For nearly two years I’ve been in love with Florence And The Machine. The harps, the drums, the lyrics and her enchanting voice are just so powerful and like no other. Everything about her album, Lungs is just perfect. Before I go into depth with this review, I just want to tell you now dear reader that this is THE album of the year. No other record matters apart from this one. No other singer matters apart from Florence. Right, with that cleared up- here we go!

Dog Days Are Over opens up the album, the track which most people became a fan of Florence by hearing this. Understandable.

Old fan favourites such as My Boy Builds Coffins and Girl With One Eye are on the album, and although compared to the other tracks are “old” hearing them on a full length album with new material doesn’t make them seem out of place. They sound just as new as all the other tracks.

I’ve heard Howl is the next single, but I have no idea how true this is. If it is true then it will do just as well as recent single, Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)

Her live show always opens with Between Two Lungs, but on the album it is nicely placed in the middle. The live version of this track is just stunning.

Cosmic Love is the most precious track on the album, and it’s also quite heartbreaking. You can sense a lot of hurt and vulnerability on Florence’s album, which is understandable really as she was dumped just before the record was made. As if you would break up with Florence!

My personal favourite track off the album is Hurricane Drunk. I’m not exactly sure what it is about the track that I adore, all I know is that is truly remarkable- like the whole album. Lyrically it’s the most painful on the album, and everyone loves dark lyrics every now and then! Quite amazing that the whole song was written and composed in ten minutes, heartbreak sure does wonders for the creative mind (and soul).

The album closes with You Got The Love, which is better than the original. The live version of this is just electrifying. Hearing everyone sing a long and a sea of hands all in the air is one of the most beautiful things you can experience. When I saw her in May, after what seemed forever (most of her gigs were in/around London) she came back on stage with You Got The Love as the encore. The crowd went mental and I’m pretty sure the majority of us shed tears of happiness. The way Florence sings this gives off a feeling of freedom, that nothing matters at all but that moment. She also brings fans on stage to sing Kiss With A Fist on stage with her and dances in the crowd when the support act are on (she danced right in front of me!) How many bands do that now?!

When I first listened to Florence a few years ago, I played a song of hers to a friend and they said “She sounds like Kate Nash.” NO! There is no comparison at all to Kate Nash here. None at all. The other Kate Florence has been compared to is Kate Bush, which in some respect, you can accept. But, I choose to believe that Florence sounds like no other. Who else uses a harp on their songs?

This album will no doubt mean a lot to a lot of people, how could it not? Every song is beautiful and powerful in its own right. Every track could easily be a single.

See you down the front in Brum!

Spinnerette- Baptized By Fire (Video).

Baptized By Fire is the new single by Spinnerette taken from the self-titled album.

It’s a personal favourite of mine, for obvious reason. I know, I know.

Anyway, I usually listen to this a few times whilst I walk to town every day (takes an hour…oooo get me!) It’s just a wonderful song, and the video is pretty damn good.

Enjoy!

La Roux. Album.

A few months ago, my ex dumped me. Like anyone else, I wallowed in self pity for a bit. I didn’t like that. Luckily, I have an amazing set of friends who I love to pieces.

One night, a group of us went to see La Roux live. This gig made me happy, like stupidly happy. Why? Because I was hearing songs that just poured out how I feel. Now, I’m not going to make review (if you can call it that) about me and my ex- who needs to hear that! NOBODY!

Bascially, if you’re being messed around by someone or you just feel a bit useless- then lyrically, this album will be like a comfort blanket for you. If you want some amazing tracks to get you through the summer- then this album is again, for you.

I’ve heard that I’m Not Your Toy is the next single, which I am excited about. It’s always been a favourite of mine. I love Cover My Eyes, quite possibly the saddest song I’ve heard in a long time. The London Gosepl Choir appear on it, which just makes it even more beautiful.

I cannot say what the best tracks are, I can only tell you that this album is an excellent debut and is easily EASILY one of the best albums of this year.

I cannot find any fault in it, it’s just a perfect piece of music that I know in 10..20..years time I will be still palying loudly and singing along. I love it.

10/10….EASILY!

You know what review you will be getting next week 😉

Florence And The Machine. Glastonbury 2009.

It’s not the full set (they cut out Hurricane Drunk..BOOO TO THE BCC!) but the bit before the last song they play (if you’ve seen Flo live before you’ll know what it is!) is amazing, the crowd are just brilliant!

She played the John Peel Stage, and I reckon if he was still here- he’d be in love with her too!

Enjoy!

Florence On Jonathan Ross….TONIGHT!

This is going to be in captials so you ALL remember……………..

FLORENCE IS GOING TO BE ON JONATHAN ROSS TONIGHT ON BBC1.

Probably at the end? Singing Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) I think? She could sing the phonebook and I’d still think it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. No doubt I’ll probably cry. I’m making my mum and stepdad watch it! Hurrah!

Florence-Live Lounge.

I counted, this is my 15th entry about Florence! Shall I just make a blog purely about her? That’d be too much.

ANYWAY.

I hate Radio 1, and I dislike Jo Whiley….but I managed to sit through hearing her voice to hear Florence on the Live Lounge. The last 5 minutes will make you cry. I don’t care if you claim to never cry-this will break your heart and you will cry. Why will you cry? Because it is heartbreakingly beautiful. Her cover of Halo is better than the orignal. I hope she plays this in September!

Florence And The Machine-Live Lounge. June 24th 2009.

I have no idea how many times I’ve listened to this!

It’s time for another entry about Florence!

Yes, this is yet another entry about the most beautiful and talented person in the world….Florence Welch.

I swear no singer has ever meant this much to me. Florence, if you see this- I FRIGGIN’ LOVE YOU!

Right, obsessive fan out of the way…have some clips which I found on YouChoob!

Girls Aloud Cover.

Hurricane Drunk(Live) – That’s for someone.

Hurricane Drunk and Are You Hurting The One You Love? are my favourites off the album so far. No, I’ve not heard the album, I’ve heard it live. And these are the two tracks which just make me want to cry, smile and make my heart beat faster. Is it like being in love? Oh, I suppose so. I am in love with her music..it’s just so mind-blowing and orignal and perfect.

Just because her album comes out in 2 weeks doesn’t mean I’m going to shut up about her!

Tickets for her UK September tour go on sale tomorrow (see you in Brum…I’ve got beef with the Academy moving venues though!)
